Simply just stated, Wonderful information! For the center hearth models, the dates I arrived up with were determined by the PR Firearms shop dates with the serial numbers identified, and considering the typical lag time among serialization and concluded assembly, the July seventeenth, 1905 day makes absolute excellent feeling.
Determined by what I have observed and read in other resources, the oval (P) evidence mark was not introduced till 1908. Prior to that point, Winchester marked “OF” (outside the house fitted) on the bottom of the barrel underneath the forend inventory to the mail purchase barrels. I've see quite a few of these on Model 1885 One Shot Rifles that predate 1908.
